Heisman Trophy Award and National Championship Build Up

Congratulations must go to Alambama's powerhouse running back Mark Ingram for winning the prestigous Heisman Trophy Award on what was an emotional evening.
This was the 75th year of the Heisman since its founders and in all fairness there was only one winner. Ingram has been phenomenal this year averaging 6.2 yards per carry and rushing for almost 1,600 yards along with 15 touchdowns. And although the likes of Tebow, McCoy, Gerhart, Spiller and Suh were among the accolades there was no doubt that Bama's running back was going home with the trophy.
His reaction to the award was unexpected for such a powerul athlete; tears began to flow knowing that his Mark Ingram Snr was watching as a proud father from his correctional facility just a few miles down the road. His acceptance speech was paused from time to time with the reality settling in that he had acheived what he believed was the impossible. In absence of a father figure stood Nick Sabin; a mentor who had made Ingram the player he is today.
Many critics had wrote Ingram off from the Heisman following the events at the Iron Bowl against Auburn who's pitch perfect defensive plan only allowed Bama's offensive weapon 65 yards from 15 carries. But it was the SEC championship game that showed the Heisman board that Ingram was the perfect candidate in what was a performance that showed of every attribute to his game most notably a screen pass that he carried for 69 yards setting up for a one yard rushing touchdown.

Another mention must go out to Nebraskan linebacker Ndamukong Suh who was rightfully recognised as one of the best defensive tackles in the sport and is well on the way to a bright career in the NFL. In the Big 12 Championship game he made 4.5 sacks against his Heisman counterpart, Colt McCoy and made it one tough night for the Longhorns.

January 7th will showcase what College Footbal is all about; The BCS National Championship game at Pasadena will host No.2 Texas Longhorns against newly crowned No1. Alabama Crimson Tide in what looks to be a fascinating encounter.

In my opinion if Greg McElroy, Mark Ingram, Julio Jones and Rolando McClain play like they did against the Gators just a few weeks ago then they will sweep the Longhorns aside because no team in the country can stop the Tide on a good day. Nick Sabin is by far the best defensive coach in college football at the moment and that I believe will prove justly come January.
