Daniel Sturridge - The Forgotten Man

The England international has been branded cocky, arrogant and disrespectful by many during his football career but all seems forgotten at Chelsea; but for the wrong reasons. The striker has only made one full appearance for the Blues during their 4-0 demolition of Bolton but even with such an emphatic score line the youngster couldn't get on the score sheet.

On the day of the Carling cup tie the media decided to have a frenzy exploiting the fact that Sturridge had failed to shine in front of Ancelotti. One article in particular stood out for me and it was written by SunSport Journalist Ian McGarry 'It's time to Sturr yourself'' criticising the attitude of the striker and highlighted the uphill struggle that he had to face with achieving a first team spot. McGarry has various links and contacts (most notably Frank Lampard) inside Chelsea's luxurious training complex in which it seems he has received information that Sturridge is up to his old tricks; however criticising a 19 year old whose striker partners include Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba is pointless and doesn't really boost confidence for the player.

Rumours have circulated in the media to suggest that the management at Chelsea are holding Sturridge back deliberately until a tribunal fee has been agreed between his former club due to the fact that if Sturridge was to had started more games and impressed; Manchester City would argue that they should receive more under the Bosman law that states that players under the age of 24 and who have moved clubs on free transfers have to pay the parent club compensation.

As a Chelsea fan I was extremely pleased to see a young English striker at Stamford Bridge but my mind tells me that Ancelotti really had no idea that the club were going to make a move for the player. All summer Chelsea were constantly linked with Alexandre Pato and just a few weeks ago ahead of their Champions League clash at the Vicente Calderon it was revealed that Athletico Madrid had indeed rejected a bid from Chelsea for Argentinian superstar Sergio Aguero, which again asks the question to whether Sturridge was brought to London for a purpose?
